Taghleef Industries (Ti), has launched Nativia NESS, a white voided film containing second generation starch derived from waste water of the potato processing industry.
The newest addition to Ti’s Nativia portfolio of bio-based films, the starch and PLA based film has thicknesses of 40 and 50 micron, a white pearlescent appearance that reduces show-through and complies with EC regulations for direct food contact. Nativia NESS can be converted on flexo or gravure presses.
Nativia NESS contributed to Ti, along with Mars, Rodenburg and Mondi, winning the 11th Global Bioplastics Award for a chocolate bar wrapper developed for Mars and Snickers bars packaging.
At interpack 2017, Ti has also introduced LSG, a white voided film for pressure-sensitive labels with ‘outstanding’ whiteness and gloss appearance for multiple end user applications, as well as expanding its Extendo range of high barrier films with aroma and mineral oil barriers, with: Extendo XMMH film, a matte finish film can be used to protect products such as flour, pasta, rice, dehydrated legumes and cereals; and Extendo XZRH, a white voided metalized film for ultra-high gas barrier that can be used for food, medical and consumer applications. Ti said it is ideal for replacing aluminum foil and reducing packaging waste, while making recycling easier.
Further, Ti has developed four new BOPP films with improved seal integrity:
These films were created to extend shelf life, prevent oil leakage and keep the ‘balloon effect’ to store and transport goods without any damage due to crushing or squeezing. Applications include potato chips, baked cakes and other fragile food products.
‘Visitors to our stand [at interpack 2017] will be impressed with the extensive range of high quality films to meet the needs of just about any packaging application they can acquire from a single, reliable source,’ commented Patrick Desies, Ti chief sales and marketing officer.
